Kindergarten Bootcamp Introduction

Welcome!

Thank you for joining us for LearnUp Centers' Kindergarten Reading Bootcamp. Putting this content online and making it available for a much-reduced price is one of the many silver linings of the global pandemic. We are excited to share our unique structured literacy program with educators, reading specialists, administrators, and parents who share our vision that reading is a gift every child deserves.

You are about to embark on a journey through the reading brain. Some of what you will learn has been known for over 100 years. Other parts were only discovered with the advent of the MRI machine. What is amazing is that what we were teaching back in 1998 was already ahead of the research on reading.  Recent neurological reading brain research has given us unprecedented insight into how to teach reading. It shows us what works and what doesn't. LearnUp's curriculum and teaching methodology fully embrace the science of reading.

We think you are in for a treat. Steve Tattum is a master teacher and is excited to share the theory, practice, and joy of teaching all learners to read.

At the end of this training, you will be able to teach reading using the fastest, most effective structured literacy program on the market. On behalf of all the kids whose lives you will change because of the way you teach reading, thank you! It is a big job, but there is no one better than you to make it happen.

Why do we need to teach reading differently?

Our approach to teaching reading is steeped in the science of reading and our practical experience of teaching the most struggling readers to read. Learn more about why our programs work through this interview of Steve Tattum. Watch Dennis Worley’s Interview with Steve Tattum.

What is Tattum Reading?

Tattum Reading is a merger of systematic phonics, phonological processing, and whole language. Our objective is to help all students read above grade level in measures of word attack, fluency, and comprehension as quickly as possible.
